  • The grain market had a great day on Friday, it is hard to pinpoint the main story that caused the overall strength. It seems that several stories helped contribute to the gains in the corn market.
    • The CK contract is above all the key moving average and the CZ contract broke above the 50 day for the first time since late February.
    • The tighter old crop carryout we received on Thursday could’ve provided some support.
    • Some are speculating that the turmoil in the outside markets has the funds looking for a ‘safe’ place to put their money.
    • The western corn belt is experiencing some dryness. 
  • Over the weekend USDA secretary Brooke Rollins said “Ethanol is a very important part of our energy independence strategy. President Trump has been unequivocal in his support for ethanol.” the comments she made this weekend will likely ease some fears of the corn and bean market about biofuels since the Trump administration took over.
  • Chinese commodity imports slowed drastically last month, Chinese government data indicated that Chinese soybean imports during March were the lowest since 2007. 
  • Argentina’s soybean crop is facing potential yield losses due to excessive rainfall. The heavy rainfall has left fields oversaturated which has delayed harvest. Harvest pace is 4% behind the 5 year average.
